Eco Art Girl’s Artist Statement: “Environmental Ecology Message”

“Environmental Ecology Message: ”I hope to promote environmental conservation and awareness with my art and message. Wetlands are the number one threatened ecosystem in the world today. Losing our wetlands to the impending threat of global warming as well as over development will impact our ecosystem and ultimately our quality of life.

For more information about the dynamics of these critical natural resources, the marsh wetlands ecosystems, how these “swampy places” swim with life and house a productive nursery for key species in the marine food chain, the role they play as economic life blood to coastal communities and how they are threatened by man’s various combined actions, see the Marsh Wetlands Tab on my website (www.rlistudios.com).

Individual actions you can take to preserve these natural wildlife habitats include purchasing a federal duck stamp at your local post office, joining NRDC.org or Audubon.org or taking individual steps that stop global warming by addressing your lifestyle. Looking at “your personal ecological footprint” and making adjustments is one small step, as coastal marshes and swamps are vulnerable and within a few feet of sea level.  Just a 2 foot rise of the oceans could eliminate 43% of all US wetlands!

Remember: Wetlands support a tremendous biodiversity of life beneficial for our life and the lives of our children. Environmental health and humanitarian health are one and the same and we should not lose sight of the planet and the natural resources we are leaving for our children.

Some proceeds from my “ECO ART” go towards supporting causes where I can “personally” be part of the solution to global warming. I support NativeEnergy.com with their note cards that pass on a beautiful message about “Just Add Wind” for a cleaner more sustainable future. Purchasing these note cards and/or carbon offsets supports their Windbuilder program, which is about planting windmills to offset our CO2 debt. (These cards are available in my studio and I believe make great thankyou notes with the image of a windturbine planted in a flower pot, along with the inside address that ” 1 card keeps 1 ton of pollution out of the air for you.”)

Inspired by the Audubon swamp gardens and marshes in South Carolina, near Folly Beach on a girlfriend’s trip, I decided a “greener” lifestyle was for me. I support Audubon as a member and they are dedicated to protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them, America’s lakes, pond, rivers, coasts and streams.

My “soul inspiration,” is creativity that manifests itself when I connect with my “inner being. My “inner self- portrait” is a green cosmic swirl of energy that is probably very symbolic of the moving, forever changing wetlands that I am mesmerized with and like to paint. It is also the “floor” of my studio.

.The technology is already here to produce clean, renewable energy. Be part of the solution. Offset your personal effect on the climate. Reduce what you can and offset what you can to make yourself carbon neutral.
