Creating Art That Speaks To You by “ECO ART GIRL OF THE CAROLINAS”

2002 became a turning point for me, a time where I returned to a purpose-driven life of creating with art. Ten years had elapsed since I had illustrated a children’s book It’s Potty Time. Life had gotten in the way. With my inner compass to guide me, art representative of “place”- the environment- and symbolic of so many of the places-we-call-home became evident in my travels. Places I had been to as a child had changed from what I remembered.  I felt the need to: create works from these special places of interests (forming a style naturally my own or a “personal translation”), work in mediums of either oil or pastel, and to record these places and memories with photography. In turn, I hope to raise the local consciousness about some of these special places and our most critical natural resources: our coastal marshes and the adjoining waters, which I call “Eco Art of the Carolinas” as my focus. My art changes. Some marsh views take on a classical or realistic look because it is not about mood but of the natural beauty of that particular place. I work from my photographs that exemplify nature in pure form so other times I am able to capture a particular mood or feeling. The marshes are magical and transform to peach, purple, red, grassy green, indigo and yellow depending on the time of year.
