I have several posts from the last trip with friends at Folly, so to catch up I will post 4. I paint with my senses from a feeling level so it is not always what my mind sees. Here goes.

“Day I James Island Marsh”- soft pastel on Wallis paper

This was a beautiful day and we enjoyed using the backyard of the neighbor across the street from our house, which backed up to the marsh.

“Crimson Sky” was next so I will post it below; soft pastel on Canson paper.

And, “Charleston’s Bridge” finally. This day it was SO windy we stayed inside and could not go outside in plein air with our supplies. Used to this occurrence, we set up inside the house and enjoyed each other’s company and many books.

I have 2 more posts from the trip and one directly after but this is it for now- signing off.

I definitely found some energy on this trip. I should have a few more posts soon.

“Eco Art of the Carolinas:” Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart so these images fuel my process. More images and information can be found on my website: www.rlistudios.com.

Studio location: 1517 Camden Road in Historic South End design district of Charlotte, NC- by appointment

Thanks for viewing!

Environmental wealth can be seen in my focus “ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS.” Pastel marshscapes and my oil paintings I hope highlight the natural beauty of marsh views, ocean vistas and coastal estuaries that I am able to capture with a photograph, or recall from memory. I hope to raise the local consciousness about the importance of one of the planet’s most critical natural resources: our coastal marshes and the adjoining coastal waters. This series on the wetlands, what I call “ECO ART,” promotes awareness of the dynamics that thrive in these fragile ecosystems. Wetlands provide essential needs to humanity and it is this message I convey on my website and post on my blog: www.roselynnrlistudios.wordpress.com This energy provided by nature propels my art along. These vibrant ecosystems, the area between land and water support life itself- environmental health and humanitarian health are one and the same. I am grateful there is an abundance of land and special places which provides great fuel for a working artist. I never grow tired of images such as these to paint.

FINDING THE ELECTRICITY or SENSING THE ENERGY PRESENT AROUND US

I am constantly reminded that we are all spirits living a human experience by what I read, see and hear. We are in effect present awareness or pure consciousness residing in a body- I’m sure you have heard that somewhere?

Maybe you haven’t?

Maybe you have heard we are just a wave of energy forming into a thought?

Maybe you haven’t?

THAT is just a thought. The thoughts keep coming. They don’t ever go away or disappear.

Life keeps rolling along whether you harness your thoughts or not, whether we even collect our thoughts- or not- or even pay attention.

Luckily, we have the chance to do that if we so desire and the key lies in finding and keeping the good thoughts. All your answers lie within yourself. As a girlfriend of mine once said, “check yourself.”

MY ART THOUGHTS:

I have had these 2 paintings in progress in my studio space for awhile with no titles assigned to either and completion was evading me.

Today, while sorting thru my thoughts the right titles became evident -clear as day in my mind’s eye.

The first may appear to you as “thrown paint on a block of plywood” but it is the result of applying many thin layers of oil paint, much like the covering and uncovering process that went on in my head to finally reveal a truth. That is why I have named it “Energy Center Opening.” This heavy type of plywood-like material was brought to the building as a donation. It stared me in the face until I decided to experiment on it using oils that were on hand. It is wired to hang on the wall but I have it leaning. It is simple, not contrived in subject matter and is almost primitive-like, but its weight represents something of substance versus the soft, powdery look it exudes; edges are cream like the walls. More importantly, it provides a lesson- my lesson and it is now complete.

It is square, just my photo is a bit askew.

Title: “Energy Center Opening ” : Classical Mini-Series pastel/oil daily ritual

Part of an Ongoing Mini-Series:

Image painted on wood panel, no frame

Medium: oil

The second image I will title “The Human Aura” and it is below.

Medium: oil

These 2 paintings represent the journey I am on- an awakening to many new abilities, thus the titles “Energy Center Opening” and “The Human Aura.”

Sometimes, people or events help us to realize deficits we have and the unseen energy we are emitting.

There is much beyond your five senses and it can affect you and those around you, so I am finding it takes much self introspection and control not to send out the wrong signal. Sometimes, you miss- you may be just flat out tired- you may let others down and miss the opportunity to create an uplifting moment. When this happens, perhaps this is a time to get the chance to pay close attention, look at your feelings and find your truth. By doing so you will increase the positive energy around you. Today, I heard the message. It has been faint all along.

If someone tells you you’re energy is low consider them a treasure and do the following.

Visualize New Energy

How To Pay Attention and Change Your Energy:

sit comfortably

feel your breathing

listen to all sounds

notice your sense of touch, smell and how you are sitting

close your eyes and open your mind and heart

think of what you have received, what you saw and heard

visualize or focus on the energy needed to change its impact

you are left with the process of becoming aware of yourself, your inner being, your inner thoughts, your inner eye.

You may find another method to accomplish this such as a long walk, yoga or meditating.

Remember, Does Not Wisdom Call?

You may want to re-connect or thank people in your life that have the greater understanding to tell you this. This may mean they are farther along the journey than you are.

My creativity changes thank goodness; however, a common thread I see is the water imagery that keeps surfacing so these “art posts” will eventually fall under the “misc tab” on my website:www.rlistudios.com.

“Eco Art of the Carolinas:” Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart so these images fuel my process.

As a Charlotte painter, I am often inspired by those around me to try a new medium or style. This week I will be doing that and using some water based media: acrylic and inks.

Today’s post is about painting one’s shadow- or the dark, unlit repressed side of the ego. This painting symbolizes the “shadow” we drag behind us and is a visual for me of the aftermath of Katrina- heavy with the parts of ourselves or of community that we didn’t approve of. I am sure with this image this is what my subconscious is sorting with- even though I was not physically anywhere near where Katrina took place. Some events haunt us and when they do it reminds us of the significance of the event.

What I am doing in effect is calling up the “energy lost in the shadow” because it is this energy that enables us to affect change. I usually paint the sun- the light- or calm- not the dark- the shadow- or unsettled. (We all try to keep this part of ourselves hidden- or as poet Bly says “stuffed in the bag we carry around, full of TO DONT’S -things we heard like: “Can’t you be still?” or Seinfeld like-ilk that makes up the first twenty years of deciding what we are to become and what to put in the bag to the last twenty years of deciding what to take out of the bag.) You get the picture. I think I am merely trying to cut the bag loose by painting out the dark side.

Art has always symbolically been a vehicle of change for me- the most we can hope for is that we don’t take ourselves too seriously while doing so.

No one should feel guilty for not keeping a journal or expressing yourself through art because it helps the whole world- every bit of energy that we engage in is good use of an orb of unused energy floating around. I have been around people where the energy was so strong you could feel it.

Using your energy in a creative way ensures positive results.

“Ocean Stir” is 24″ x 30″ acrylic on canvas

My Studio location: 1517 Camden Road in the Historic South End design district of Charlotte, NC- is by appointment but can be viewed daily 11-3 during CAL hours because I share a small work space that is part of a co-op of community artists within CAL (Charlotte Art League).

Most of my art images explore the land in the form of seascapes, marshscapes and coastal views and record for me the viewer and my children our travel-places we have fond memories of.

Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart -so these images I post fuel my process. Three ACEOs to follow below- my first attempt at “ACEOs.” ACEO stands for Artist Collectors Edition or Original, sometimes called ATC or Artist Trading Cards. They are popular among my artist friends who carry and trade them. Often they are wallet size or a little larger, as mine are here.

Sunset Sail $15+ $5 s & h

Sunset Sail measures 4″ x 6″ and is pastel on Holbein vegetable flake paper (a great paper my friend Karen gave me at a beach workshop)

Sunlit Rose $15 + $5 s & h

Sunlit Rose is 3″ x 6″ pastel on La Carte pastel card

and lastly,

Breezy Hut

$25 + $5 s & h

Breezy Hut is 6″ x 9″ pastel on Wallis paper- which has a top frayed paper edge I can’t show here but makes it interesting. If you should be interested in any of these ACEOs you can reach me via my website at: www.rlistudios.com.

I tend to paint marshscapes, landscapes and seascapes. My art focus is my everyday fascination with “place,” specifically marsh and coastal waters. My ECO Art theme has grown out of inspiration- the land and the delicacy of it. I move back and forth between two mediums: pastels versus oils.

As you can see, I am pretty content with inspiration and focus.

…. Eco Art Girl signing off with my “daily painting post” for awhile to prepare for a workshop and travel.

Tuesday

I’ll have to say I haven’t been paying attention lately. Distractions. Some are good though like this image I will post as my “daily painting.” It measures a mere 9″ x 11″ on masonite board and is very shiny due to the high linseed content mixed with my oils.

I’ll have to check my horizon line on my image when it finally dries; I believe the photo is a bit distorted due to it is leaning up against the Jullian easel. The pink sky just emerged from my consciousness; it is like the painting is smiling back at me. I hope you feel that way too.

With my “painting-a-day posts,” I switch between the mediums of oil or soft pastel. I prefer oils but they take more time to gather and set-up, which I usually get to late at night, and today it was not until my return from the gym too. Pastels are water based and are easily transportable if you are at the beach.
I paint landscapes and seascapes generally because it is these images that fit my art focus, which is all about the land, treasures– such “AS our natural resources”-like this one, OUR OCEANS.

Other marshscapes and landscapes are on my website at www.rlistudios.com

and misc work I offer on www.charlotteartists.com

“Eco Art of the Carolinas:” Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart so these images fuel my process. More images and information can be found on my website: www.rlistudios.com.

“Rocks of Folly Beach” and here is where ART found me!
Here IT is where my art all started, where IT found me. When I started painting marshscapes in January ‘05 I was interested in recording landscapes and these masses of wild, open spaces in true form, and I was interested in the color I found in these beautiful places and how the marsh sweet grass would magically change color, depending on the season. It took a beach trip to Folly Beach, SC – which I have rendered above with soft pastels- where I spent time studying the marsh which backed up in some areas just one block from the ocean. Out our front door we were welcomed by the Atlantic, and out our kitchen and workshop area we watched the sun go down over a field of peach “spartina” grass, affectionately termed sweet grass. I have gathered since this trip hundreds of photos of the marshes of this area and the island- James Island, which I use as reference material to the images I have posted on my blog.

For more information about the functions and values of these marshy wet fields of grass see the marsh tab on my website: www.rlistudios.com

Art talk: The image area for “Ocean Mists” pastel measures 8 1/2″ x 11.” I did this last night after dinner, which is usually the time that appears for me to have a few moments to myself in the studio where it is quiet. The book bags are by the door for the next am and even our cinnamon colored chow-chow, named Cinncinnati (“Cinnabear” for short) has nodded off in my red, velvet chair. This is the time I set aside for my painting-a-day ritual. Hope you like it.

Ambiance to Paint by: I have jumped on the ipod craze and now how a music shuffle of favorites. My most recent FIND for a great song is Jennifer Lopez’s “Do It Well,” one HOT song that keeps me from passing out-flat dead out fainting in the middle of the street-on my bicycle when I can’t make it up the hill! ( The beat is more than good. I don’t think I have heard anything better as of late. ADDICTIVE. Lyrics- well- let’s just say I am glad my mom’s not listening!)
