ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS THEME born out of inspiration…..

surfaced with my belief in preserving the beauty and health of the environment- the land. My appreciation of the natural beauty in nature was born in my youth when I admired the mists rising off of the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge and grew from my travels.  I am drawn to paint various landscapes, marshscapes, seascapes often of wild lands and often including water imagery.  My primary subject matter interest began with the ecosystems that represent change between the land and sea, including marsh environments and mangrove forests.  I hope via my website to promote awareness of the dynamics that thrive in these fragile ecosystems.

RLISTUDIOS dedicated to showcasing ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS, marshscapes and depictions of coastal estuaries, can be found in North Carolina Community Treasures (a 263 page compilation-resource guide aboutNorth Carolina places, the business people who live there, their products and their passions). This hardbound, coffee table book will guide you to some of the most inviting places across the state, from the warm Atlantic shores to the breathtaking Appalachian Mountains. For your copy click: http://treasuresof.com/BuyBook.aspx

Pastel painting resumes!

I have been away from my blog but not too far away from art. Having recently re-located to the piedmont area to oversee my mom’s care plan and care for her, I, have had to re-adjust my schedule and be creative as to ways to incorporate art into my now busier schedule. Days are filled with more travel and the anticipated planning that goes with that. As always, I keep a few books in tow because I frequently find myself in “waiting rooms,” mostly doctors appointments I have to shuffle to between my kids, myself and others. Here are a few books geared towards the artist in yourself:

“WRITING THE ARTIST STATEMENT”- by ARIANNE GOODWIN

And an “affirmative visualization” is in the title of this one – a book by a former CFP- imagine that?

“The Affluent Artist” by Rick DiBasio…The author has a way of relating with creative types. He speaks our language.

Yes, I break crayons, I know I am a little different, and yes, I do resonate with the word “artist.” But, yes, I do also read the Wall Street Journal online, and I am a better than average investor BECAUSE of my persnicky “artists” traits- which I would rather think of as “skills.” Artists learn early on that money is a limited resource- you bet. Why not put all that adaptability to good use? Rick’s book is a good resource and a reminder to each of us to check our emotions at the door in the business world, but  trusts your instincts while there. He’ll keep asking you throughout the book, “Psst….do you have this, do you have that?” I personally, have made friends with a CFP, CTA and a lawyer now (I have these for specific work to be done). For more checklist items that will guide you along as you expand your horizons on your creative journey, you can check out his book via his blog at: http://affluentartist.wordpress.com/

Now, returning to the ritual…..

PAINT PARTY MARSHSCAPE is a demo exercise I did last night in anticipation of a pm “Paint Party” that is being organized here via BAC (Burke Arts Council). I know we will have a very good time setting aside time to create -which is becoming viewed more and more as a healthy habit in this busy, busy life we have.

Here is a link about the paint party - http://www.burkearts.org/childart.html
