On my website www.rlistudios.com under the INSPIRATION TAB I share books that provide good guidance.
One particular book I am using presently is “How To Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” by Michael J. Gelb.
Here are my thoughts:
Being I am in transition, I am in the wake of risking treasure and comfort for a “slice of the creative life.” For this reason alone the jacket cover catches my attention. Flipping further, I find a tribute and how- to -guide on how to tap into the global archetype of “human potential.”
It is THAT which da Vinci stands to serve. I ask, are there any possibilities present for me? Could I apply the 7 fundamentals of Leonardo’s approach to learning anytime I encountered a fork in the road, where Yogi Berra advises, “Take the fork?”
Could I ignite the modern day creative fire in me simply by stretching my brain to think differently? And, could I develop new approaches for self-expression to make my life a work of art?
The challenge is always in the doing and using the 7 principles and developing them for our own personal benefit. Knowing that, I examine the self-assessment notes, the applications and exercises. Keeping a journal I already do. Inquiring of myself 100 questions in one sitting takes some doing, but doing those 100 questions a year later reveals new meaning. Questions once blank now have answers. Some answers along with some questions have now changed.
After your 100 questions, you may choose to sharpen your blade, awaken the new or return to the drawing board? This book allows you to open your door every day to freedom, with an open, questioning frame of mind.
I am:
* in the process of deciding when/how to re-locate part or all of the year to spend more time with my Mom (near Blowing Rock).
* in the process of enrolling my child in a new middle school…
* in the process of renting/selling a house?
* in the process of selling a home in Charlotte.
* in the process of simplifying…simplifying….recycling and more of that.
* in the process of risking treasure and comfort for a slice of freedom (also known as a creative lifestyle).
ART will have to wait, but I have this great book to refer to as I balance reason with emotion.
If you have any advice to share your comments are welcome.
“Eco Art of the Carolinas:” Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart so these images fuel my process. More images and information can be found on my website: www.rlistudios.com.
Studio location: 1517 Camden Road in Historic South End design district of Charlotte, NC- by appointment
Thanks for viewing!
Environmental wealth can be seen in my focus “ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS.” Pastel marshscapes and my oil paintings I hope highlight the natural beauty of marsh views, ocean vistas and coastal estuaries that I am able to capture with a photograph, or recall from memory. I hope to raise the local consciousness about the importance of one of the planet’s most critical natural resources: our coastal marshes and the adjoining coastal waters. This series on the wetlands, what I call “ECO ART,” promotes awareness of the dynamics that thrive in these fragile ecosystems. Wetlands provide essential needs to humanity and it is this message I convey on my website and post on my blog: www.roselynnrlistudios.wordpress.com This energy provided by nature propels my art along. These vibrant ecosystems, the area between land and water support life itself- environmental health and humanitarian health are one and the same. I am grateful there is an abundance of land and special places which provides great fuel for a working artist. I never grow tired of images such as these on my website and rooted in my travels, which inspire me to paint.

Below is an original computer generated image created in Photoshop which I’ll call “Peppermint Explosion.” I am looking for feedback on this image. Is this something you like as art?

The world you paint is the world God meant for us to treasure. So many of us walk through life and never see the beauty that you capture in your work. It is inspiring and it embraces the true essence of the spirit of the earth. I hope you will continue to nurture your gift so that it may enlighten those who see it and encourage them to see the earth as a gift and not something to exploit and destroy. Thank you for showing us through your talent how wonderful and mystical our earthly home really is.
