“Shells” and “The Path To Awareness”: A-painting-a-day in oil or pastel series by Charlotte Artist/ Eco Art Girl

By land and sea artist of the carolinas

Last of the posts from the workshop I attended…. “Shells” below, soft pastel on Wallis paper…

And, I have a little something I have entitled “The Path To Awareness” which I did at the end of this trip to the Folly shoreline and it is below. Again, soft pastel but on Canson paper.

These 2 images are certainly clearer than my last posts, probably indicative of my thinking becoming into focus again. The sand I could almost feel in the top image and in the bottom image my path is running off of the page -symbolically telling me to keep moving along. In theory, the path should keep you in the frame and not run off the page but this was an exercise in a workshop- a fast study and the result of emotions at hand. If I want I can adjust the path to turn a bit to the left and not run off the page- maybe so?

“The Path To Awareness” is perhaps a visualization, I know my path now. Right? There are messages all around us, signs from the universe about what path to take. I feel I sense energy by the images I create, even though I may be unaware while in the process of creating. When I look back to see what has materialized to my amazement it is usually what I was thinking. Again, I was merely asking what lies ahead for me? Focusing on that thought, seeking energy.

Speaking of, someone sent me energy just before I set out to work “in plein air” over my telephone in the form of the “sound of electricity.” Not a clue as to who this could be- perhaps a wrong number- but it worked after I asked all my friends who could possibly have access to such a thing. I started paying attention thinking again that I could possibly find this “sound” on my own-say will it. We have all read any energy you want exists in the world- and in all living things. If you want it you can tune into it.

And, you know when I started making myself a priority, committing to myself, I felt it again on my way to a Bruce Springsteen concert on a damp, drizzly, rainy day. You skeptics will say it was the bad weather. I say I was paying attention to what I like in life and my own needs, that being music, driving to my friend’s house who I hadn’t seen in 15 years and going to hear “The Boss” rock.  So, by asking the age-old question of “Who am I” I could clearly interpret the energy around me and feel it and know I felt it. Call this what you like: bringing the unconscious into consciousness, listening to the flow, or asking yourself “What do you really want?” This was just but a preview of the energy I was going to feel once around many exuberant fans and a sea of technology: cell phones lit up like candles- what IS the “new school of bic lighters.”

Again, this post is about “pressing a discipline” and “keeping the movement going thru art.” If it seems a bit narcissistic to you- then you haven’t found your truth or maybe you have lost it in the shuffle- but its been there all along.  So, I challenge you to follow suit with your own blog (should you be a painter, sculptor or candle stick maker, etcetera, etcetera) or create a new path of your own creative liking and try sharing it.

“Eco Art of the Carolinas:” Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart so these images fuel my process. More images and information can be found on my website: www.rlistudios.com.

Studio location: 1517 Camden Road in Historic South End design district of Charlotte, NC- by appointment

Thanks for viewing!

Environmental wealth can be seen in my focus “ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS.” Pastel marshscapes and my oil paintings I hope highlight the natural beauty of marsh views, ocean vistas and coastal estuaries that I am able to capture with a photograph, or recall from memory. I hope to raise the local consciousness about the importance of one of the planet’s most critical natural resources: our coastal marshes and the adjoining coastal waters. This series on the wetlands, what I call “ECO ART,” promotes awareness of the dynamics that thrive in these fragile ecosystems. Wetlands provide essential needs to humanity and it is this message I convey on my website and post on my blog: www.roselynnrlistudios.wordpress.com This energy provided by nature propels my art along. These vibrant ecosystems, the area between land and water support life itself- environmental health and humanitarian health are one and the same. I am grateful there is an abundance of land and special places which provides great fuel for a working artist. I never grow tired of images such as these to paint.
