Slowly, I am returning to the groove of “painting-a-day-posts” after enjoying a week-long trip to Folly with other artists. I will post from that trip but initially 2 are below of indoor pastel exercises. With 12 artists, too much food and beautiful weather it is a wonder we stayed to the task at hand at all. As you can see on the walls of the house everyone had fun.
Art in the beach house at Folly.
Crunch time- since Art & Soul is this weekend in Charlotte I decided to put a few of my exercises in mats/frames for the sidewalk sale and I will have to forgo the reflections on the glass in this post for now. Fresh oysters we had 2 nights in a row because one of the participants in the group decided to spend his time much to all of our delight adding his catch of the day to the group dinner, braving the mud, elements and all.
The weekend will be short as I have plans to go see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, in addition to Art & Soul.
TO ALL THE ARTISTS WHO WONDER about this daily or be it weekly practice of creating a fast, daily painting and post as a ritual it can be seen as an opportunity to unwind in a safe, healthy way. Creating can be very mental but usually is a pleasing activity like finding a good book, or enjoying a symphony or concert.
My Studio location: 1517 Camden Road in the Historic South End design district of Charlotte, NC- is by appointment but can be viewed daily 11-3 during CAL hours because I share a small work space that is part of a co-op of community artists within CAL (Charlotte Art League).
Most of my art images on my website rlistudios.com explores the land in the form of seascapes, marshscapes and coastal views and record for me the viewer and my children our travel-places we have fond memories of.
Marshscapes and coastal estuaries pull at my heart -so these images I post fuel my process. More images and information can be found on my website: www.rlistudios.com.
RLISTUDIOS dedicated to showcasing ECO ART OF THE CAROLINAS, marshscapes and depictions of coastal estuaries, can be found in North Carolina Community Treasures (a 263 page compilation-resource guide aboutNorth Carolina places, the business people who live there, their products and their passions). This hardbound, coffee table book will guide you to some of the most inviting places across the state, from the warm Atlantic shores to the breathtaking Appalachian Mountains. For your copy click: http://treasuresof.com/BuyBook.aspx
